Tooth-Colored Fillings
Metal-Free Composite Fillings: A Safe Way to Rebuild Your Smile
A composite (metal-free) dental filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.
Composite Fillings vs. Traditional Fillings
Do You have...
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Sore or severely sensitive teeth
- Decayed teeth
- Worn teeth
There are two types of filling materials normally used. Composite fillings and traditional silver amalgam fillings, are the two most widely used today. Composite fillings are metal-free and tooth-colored, offering a natural look to the tooth. Dr. Newman uses only metal-free composites for fillings. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a long-lasting filling solution.
The Composite Filling Process
Before recommending a filling, we will use safe and sophisticated digital technology to assess the state of your smile. Digital X-rays are a far safer alternative to traditional analog X-rays, and we will use this advanced tool to detect any decay or cavities.
Composite fillings are usually applied in one appointment at our dental office in Nashville, TN. First, we will remove any decay as necessary. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the filling is applied. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.
It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when fillings are first placed, however, this will normally subside soon after the tooth or teeth becomes acclimated to the new filling. Sedation is available upon request to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
